The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has announced the public hearings schedule for its 194th Period of Sessions, to be held from November 17 to 21, 2025, at the University of Miami, Lakeside Village, 1280 Stanford Drive, Coral Gables, Florida, United States. Over the course of the week, the IACHR will hold 19 public hearings addressing the human rights situation in 14 countries and at the regional level across the Americas.
The Americas Alliance to End FGM/C, of which Sahiyo is a member, will participate in the hearing on “ Regional: Status of Female Genital Mutilation Practices,” scheduled for November 17th from 2:00 – 3:30 PM EST. Sahiyo Executive Director and Co-founder Mairya Taher will speak on the panel as a representative of the Americas Alliance. The hearing is open to the public, both in person and online.
While FGM/C impacts over 230 million women and girls globally, its presence in the Americas has only gained recognition in the past three decades. This hearing offers a vital opportunity to highlight this critical issue and discuss regional strategies to bring an end to FGM/C.
