Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is an internationally recognized human rights violation and underrecognized form of gender-based violence (GBV). Despite its similarities with other harms rooted in gender discrimination and systemic violence, there remain obstacles to collaboration between the anti-FGM/C and other anti-GBV organizations. In this presentation, we identify how FGM/C is showing up in the U.S., explain why it is helpful to build capacity for collaboration with FGM/C work within GBV organizations, explore obstacles, and provide resources for intersectional collaboration between these interconnected social justice movements.
