Principles of Survivor-Centered Programming for FGM/C

Training
Date: October 17, 2024 12:00 PM

This training, hosted by Sahiyo U.S. and the U.S. End FGM/C Network, will focus on the principles of survivor-centered programming for FGM/C. It aims to equip service providers, advocates, and community leaders with the knowledge, tools, and frameworks to support survivors holistically, ensuring that their experiences, voices, and needs drive the design and implementation of programs.

The training will uplift insights shared by survivors, highlighting their experiences across different service sectors; and offering valuable lessons and considerations for participants to apply in their own work or advocacy efforts. In addition, the training will feature speakers from organizations across the country that have successfully integrated programming strategies into their overall services to support survivors of FGM/C. Whether participants are working directly with survivors or impacted communities, they will come away with an understanding of how to integrate trauma-informed care and survivor-led perspectives into their effort

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Be introduced to approaches for designing programs that prioritize the needs and experiences of survivors (i.e., trauma-informed care).
  • Identify ways to apply survivor-centered advocacy in their own work, using insights shared by survivors and service organizations.
  • Explore strategies for applying holistic support and survivor-centered practices in their own professional or advocacy work.

Target Audience: Healthcare professionals, social workers, community leaders, educators, advocates, and anyone interested in understanding and addressing FGM/C.
