Coming Together in Community: Fundraising for Sahiyo

This year, our community came together in inspiring ways to raise awareness and support for Sahiyo’s mission to end female genital cutting (FGC) and uplift survivor voices. From yoga mats to wine glasses, each gathering reminded us of the power of connection, creativity, and collective action.

Yoga for Healing and Awareness
Sahiyo’s Executive Director, Mariya Taher, hosted two incredible yoga fundraisers—one virtual on May 20, 2025 and one in-person at CorePower on August 9, 2025. Both events provided a space for mindfulness, healing, and community while raising essential funds for Sahiyo. Participants shared how the sessions not only supported their own wellness but also deepened their understanding of Sahiyo’s work to center survivors and create change.

Sipping for a Cause at Total Wine & More
Supporters also gathered at a Total Wine & More event on August 2, 2025, enjoying an evening of wine tasting while learning about Sahiyo’s programs and impact. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring new people into our community, start conversations, and celebrate the generosity of those who believe in our mission.

Your Creativity Can Spark Change
These recent fundraisers show that there are so many ways to raise awareness and funds for Sahiyo. Here are just a few ideas:

  • Host a wellness class—yoga, meditation, Zumba, or dance—to combine community and self-care with a cause.
  • Celebrate a milestone by asking friends and family to donate to Sahiyo in honor of your birthday, graduation, or wedding.
  • Organize a dinner, tea party, or wine tasting to gather your circle in meaningful conversation.
  • Launch a peer-to-peer fundraiser through our campaign platform, inviting your network to join the movement.
  • Share survivor stories and resources on social media to raise awareness and spark dialogue.

To help get you started, we’ve created an In-Person Fundraiser Toolkit with tips, templates, and inspiration for planning your own event in support of Sahiyo.

Every effort, no matter the size, helps us continue our work to support survivors, shift harmful narratives, and create a world where every person grows up free from FGC.

Thank you to everyone who has shown up for Sahiyo this season—with your time, energy, and generosity, you are helping create lasting change.
