December 2025 marked 10 years since Sahiyo’s founding in 2015.To mark such a momentous milestone, we launched a campaign to reflect on the past decade and honor the community that made this work possible.
From July through December, we uplifted each of our core programs, Research, Community Education, Training & Technical Assistance, Activists Retreat, Bhaiyo, Voices to End FGM/C, and Policy. For each program we shared past achievements in our monthly newsletter, posted trivia on social media to engage our community, and highlighted former program participants on our blog.
We also heard directly from those who started it all through our Sahiyo Founders Interview Series, featuring interviews with four of the founders. During this celebration, Sahiyo also reached another important milestone by becoming an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This status gives us greater autonomy and flexibility to expand our work supporting communities impacted by female gential cutting (FGC) and advancing reproductive health equity.
Alongside these initiatives, we hosted a six-month fundraiser with a goal of raising $10,000 to honor our first decade and help sustain our future work. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we exceeded our goal by over $7,000. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed.
As we start 2026 and embark on our next decade of change, we invite you and your community to stay involved with Sahiyo. Whether through volunteering, internships, attending webinars and/or trainings, or participating in retreats or workshops there are many meaningful ways to support Sahiyo and the growing movement to end FGC.
One way to get involved right away is by supporting our 4th Annual CelebrateHer: Comedy & Auction, taking place March 25-29, 2026. This event brings together humor, storytelling, and collective generosity in support of Sahiyo’s mission while honoring Women’s History Month. Click here for more information!
